This picture shows nursing staff welcoming over 400 Teddy Bears to the Casualty Unit last year.  See details of this year’s Christmas Teddy Bear Run below this note about the Scottish Splendor Trip.

 We are about to close the list for ‘The Scottish Splendor Tour. 2013.  24th – 27th April.’

This is your last chance to get on the list for this trip.  We need to finalise our accommodation requirements so if you want to join us please contact Russ who is managing the arrangements, and get your deposit in.

This trip will be lead by our Scottish Expert, Russ who is a highly skilled rider and had passed the RoSPA Test to the highest level. Also well able to pass on his skills as an Advanced Tutor in the RoSPA Group.  He knows how to ride….. and he knows how to ride in Scotland! Russ was recently voted ‘RoSPA Group Member of the Year’ beating nominations from across the UK.

This trip will consist of riding arguably some of the best roads in Europe and undoubtedly the best in the UK. Russ says, “For me the Scottish Highlands is the best all rounder bike trip anyone can wish for.  The mixture and high quality of roads, scenery, view points, cafes and restaurants etc all add up to making this an amazing trip”.

Accommodation has been secured for four nights at Kelso, Skye, Ullapool and Drymen.

The cost of this amazing trip is just £295 per person and included in that price you will get;

A Reminder about the Teddy Bear Run to the Children’s Casualty Unit at the UHW, Heath Hospital.

Sunday the 9th of December. Hospital Teddy Bear Run to the Children’s Casualty Unit.  Meeting at Caerphilly Mountain Snack Bar for a 9.30am departure to the Hospital.  This is our annual Teddy Bear Run to the Children’s Casualty Unit at the UHW, Heath Hospital.  The idea is to take a Teddy Bear (at least one each – but a bag full would be nice…) to the Casualty Unit so that if a child who is in there for treatment, becomes attached to the Bear, then they can get to take it home with them.

It is believed that if a child becomes attached to a toy at a time they are suffering some trauma then it aids their recovery if they are able to keep it.  Any child who is unfortunate enough to find themselves needing emergency treatment over the Christmas period can have the benefit of a cuddly little friend to see them through the ordeal.

So, lots of smaller Bears are more suitable than one big one.  We don’t want to take a Teddy so big that it might hinder any treatment being given.  A small Teddy friend that can be hugged without getting in the way is better.

Once again Ikea are selling Teddy Bears and other cuddly toys from as little as 40p so you can fill your panniers for a couple of quid.  Ikea will also donate 1 Euro to UNICEF for each toy sold.  So it’s a double benefit for kids.

Last year we took over 400 Teddy Bears and other furry friends to the Hospital.  Please lets see if we can beat it this year.

Come on….. you know you want to…….
