Dambusters Ride Out & Scotland

Dam Busters Ride Out 23rd of June.

May saw the 70th anniversary of the Dam Busters Raid but in July 1942 secret testing was taking place in Mid Wales.  The main Elan Valley dams had been completed and a little known subsidiary dam that was no longer needed once the main dams had been constructed was chosen for explosives testing during the planning of the Dam Busters Raid.  Barnes Wallis needed a 35 feet high dam to work out the amount of charge needed to breach it.  Nant y Gro Dam was chosen. Nant y Gro Dam was partially destroyed in this testing but remains today, as it was left in 1942.  Ironic that its destruction cemented its place in our history books.

Our next Ride Out to the Elan Valley to visit the site will be Sunday the 23rd of June.  Meeting at Caerphilly Mountain snack bar for a 10am departure.  For those wishing to actually go to the site, this involves a short trek alongside the reservoir from the Visitor Centre, or it can be viewed from the roadway on the opposite side of the water.  Join us for this one.

Scotland Part Two. September 5th -9th 2013

We’ve been before, but we are going back.  Due to the success of the last trip we are running a second Scottish Splendor Tour.

This is five days/four nights Hotel accommodation in selected quality hotels. The tour takes in some of the best biking roads, and most spectacular scenery in the UK.  The accommodation is on a 2 night Bed & Breakfast basis, and 2 nights Bed, Breakfast & Evening Meal.

The cost is yet to be finalised (once accommodation costs are clarified) but will be no more than £350.

Included in this is the accommodation as stated, a tour pack, with route maps and locations, plus points of interest along the way and the services of our Experienced Tour Guides (and puncture repair ‘specialists’ from the last trip!!).

This trip is not to be missed, and already those who came with us in the Spring have their names on the list to come again.  So don’t miss out.

If you want to get on the list a deposit will be required before the end of June so check your diaries.

Four Day Advanced Course

I will be publishing dates for the next 1st Class Four Day Advanced Motorcycle Course shortly.  It is hoped that we will run one over the Summer months, so watch out for the next Newsletter Blog.  If you are interested and have specific dates that are suitable for you, then please let me know and I will try and accommodate you.  There were a few who couldn’t make the dates on the last course that we ran.

So we have,  Scotland, Dam Busting and an opportunity to become a RoSPA Gold Rider……….

Come on……. you know you want to…..
